CMD, a British manufacturer & designer of office power solutions and ergonomic accessories, confirmed that 100% of the waste from its Rotherham based Manufacturing & Distribution head office is now recycled.

Commenting on the news, CMD’s Quality Manager Graham Gillott said: “It is encouraging to see businesses like ourselves working effectively with Biffa to achieve this industry leading target of zero waste to landfill’. Commenting further with ‘As well as demonstrating the importance of environmental responsibility, implementing more effective recycling services to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill makes good business sense: landfill tax costs continue to rise and increasingly, collection contracts such as this will be the most economic way for businesses of all sizes to deal with recycling as well as general waste. This news is a tremendous achievement for us and demonstrates our commitment to cut carbon emissions across our business. All recycled waste is collected by Biffa and rebates are received for recyclable materials, which substantially reduces our costs. Biffa worked with us to implement new recycling systems, introducing a Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) service for materials like plastic bottles, paper and cans as well as general waste recycling services’.

The Kitemark is a UK product and service quality certification mark which is owned and operated by The British Standards Institution (BSI Group). The Kitemark is most frequently used to identify products where safety is paramount, and for CMD this is no exception. Rotasoc has been a trusted product since its original launch over a decade ago and even with its manufacturing base now established in its new home of Rotherham, it has just received Kitemark recognisation.

Did you know that the Kitemark was originally conceived in 1903 as a symbol to identify products manufactured to meet British Standards’ specifications. ‘Kitemark’ came from the kite shape of the graphic device which was drawn up – an uppercase B (for British) on its back, over an S (for standard), enclosed by two lines and as such is likely to be among the oldest product marks in the world still in regular use.

The three main product types; standard power, low noise power (clean earth) and dual power (standard and low noise together), means that Rotasoc can be used in a variety of environments including those where an uninterrupted power supply is critical. And like CMD’s Betatrak system, the Rotasoc modules are colour coded and designed to prevent the three product types from being mixed when additional modules are attached. The in-feed modules can be safely connected to the power supply prior to workstation installation, allowing circuits to be electrically tested, signed off and carpets laid before installation is completed. The 16A systems can also be upgraded to a 32A system by simply changing the in-feed module and supply cables to 32A.

Since 1984 CMD has specialised in the design and manufacture of office power, which includes under desk, through desk and on desk power & data modules and the development of bespoke solutions. And with over 25 years’ experience and expertise, the most logical next step was to add Rotasoc to its portfolio with its natural synergy with Betatrak, CMD’s underfloor power distribution system. One of Rotasoc’s unique features is that the sockets are busbar interconnected so no terminals or soldering is required. This makes it the perfect solution for rapid configuration and changes, when additional power and data is required or when workstations need to be relocated. Rotasoc also includes a simple plug and play system that allows the modules to be quickly pushed together and locked in place using a ‘cam-lock’ lever system. The ease of installation is further enhanced by the use of central through fixing, which makes the modules quick and easily to install onto all types surfaces, saving the end user time and money.
