CSR

There are many names given to corporate social responsibility (CSR) like corporate responsibility, corporate citizenship, responsible business, sustainable responsible business (SRB), corporate social performance but all in theory mean the same. Incorporating this into our business model and deliberately thinking about more ethnical considerations ensure that we all can honor the belief of People: Planet, Profit.

For many the practice of CSR is subject to much debate and criticism with larger organisations with some what deeper pockets than a relatively modest SME like CMD, can afford to focus heavily on this principle.  They believe that corporate benefits are tenfold, taking a broader perspective and longer term view rather just focusing on short term profits. For a company like CMD we are very conscious of the importance of a CSR policy but we do have to balance this with the fundamental economic running of our successful UK business that provides employment for over 150 families. Our ultimate goal is to get to a position where CSR would function as a built-in, self regulating mechanism whereby our business would automatically monitor and ensure its adherence to law, ethical standards and international norms.  For us we are on the journey but look what we have already achieved to date and this is only the beginning for us;

•    All our boxed packaging is sourced from recycled materials
•    From 2009 all our marketing material is printed on FSC approved stock
•    Majority of our materials are purchased locally in the UK and where possible within close proximity to our Head Office in Rotherham
•    Majority of our product is assembled and test right here in the UK
•    Majority of our products are manufactured in the UK with the short term goal to have 100% manufacture in the UK within the next 12 months
•    Huge investment in ‘Green’ technology for our field of expertise (electrics for the office) – development of our eco^2TM range of energy saving power modules
•    Development of our Ceiling Plus lighting control module range – which is listed and approved on the Carbon Trust Technology List
•    Consolidation of our Warehouse and Distribution facilities into one. Feb 2009 saw CMD move its Warehousing and Distribution centre from Canklow into Head Office to save on energy costs, transportation between the 2 sites and overhead costs

For us we are beginning to embrace our responsibility for the impact of our activities on the environment, customers, employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere. Essentially, CSR for us is the deliberate inclusion of public interest into our corporate decision-making process
