Traditional power supplies are limited by their use of technology with fixed functionality to provide constant often unused power, but intelligent power combats these limits through the use of cutting edge sensing technology. An intelligent power supply uses a microcontroller or digital signal controller to give you greater flexibility and control over how your power is utilised.

The power supply can be reprogrammed to cope with different IT hardware and peripheral items. Plug and play systems are also referred to as modular systems and as they are assembled off-site enable installation to be carried out quickly and easily and with the minimum of impact to normal business operations. Power leads can be instantly connected into a system, ensuring that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.

Intelligent power solutions can also carry out other functions such as power scheduling that potentially can flexibly fit around existing workplace management. The introduction of smart metering at this level also greatly increases the visibility of the power enabling greater control.
